This exhibition is a solo show developed across the interior galleries of the Yamanashi Prefectural Museum of Art, the Art Forest Park, and virtual space. The title Mechareal is a term coined by Takakurakazuki, focusing on the mechanistic tendencies that emerged when Surrealism was introduced to Japan. The project takes as its starting point the work of Toshihito Yonekura, a Yamanashi-born painter active during the early development of Surrealism in Japan. Yonekura’s late explorations—fusing Eastern philosophy, Buddhism, indigenous beliefs, and Surrealism—closely resonate with Takakura’s own practice.
Takakura has approached the widely shared Japanese belief in “entities that are believed to exist yet cannot be physically touched” by aligning them with forms of digital existence. Using technologies such as AI-generated imagery, pixel animation, 3D printing, VR, and NFTs, he has given these ideas concrete form as contemporary expression. In this exhibition, he traverses relationships between machine and nature, physical reality and virtual space, AI and humans, reason and irrationality, experimenting with new image constructions across multiple digital and real spaces.

本展は、山梨県立美術館の館内空間、芸術の森公園、仮想空間を舞台に展開した個展である。タイトルの「メカリアル」は、シュルレアリスムが日本に受容された際に見られた機械主義的傾向に着目し、たかくらかずきが独自に造語した言葉である。本プロジェクトの出発点には、日本におけるシュルレアリスム黎明期に活躍した山梨県出身の画家・米倉壽仁の作品がある。米倉が晩年に探求した、東洋思想や仏教、土着の信仰とシュルレアリスムを融合させる試みは、たかくら自身の制作と強く重なっている。
たかくらは、日本で広く共有されてきた信仰に見られる「存在を信じながらも触れることのできないもの」を、デジタル上の存在と重ね合わせて捉えてきた。AIによる画像生成、ピクセルアニメーション、3Dプリント、VR、NFTなどの技術を用い、それらを現代の表現として具体化している。本展では、機械と自然、現実世界と仮想空間、AIと人間、合理と不合理といった対立項のあいだに生じる関係性を横断し、デジタルとリアルの複数の空間を用いた新たなイメージの構成を試みた。
MECHAREAL VR Exhibition

Viewers can access the VR exhibition Mechareal online. While sharing themes and motifs with the physical Mechareal, this exhibition reconstructs the data to unfold as an independent space unique to the digital realm. In addition, ten QR codes are installed throughout the garden of the Yamanashi Prefectural Museum of Art. By walking through the garden and scanning them with a smartphone, visitors can acquire digital artworks inspired by Dōsojin, traditional roadside deities.
鑑賞者はオンラインからVR展示「メカリアル」にアクセスすることができる。本展示は、フィジカルな「メカリアル」と共通するテーマやモチーフを扱いながら、データを再構成し、デジタルならではの独立した空間として展開される。また、山梨県立美術館の庭園には10か所のQRコードが設置されており、庭園を巡りながらスマートフォンをかざすことで、道祖神をモチーフとしたデジタルアートを取得することができる。
